AnoxyBed-EGSB implementation in the juice sector.
An Austrian producer of fruit preserves was looking for the possibility of expanding an existing treatment plant that was not working in accordance with the design assumptions. As part of the “design and build” contract, Symbiona implemented an anaerobic sewage treatment plant with a new high-rate tower AnoxyBed™-EGSB (expanded granular sludge bed) reactor technology, along with the modernization and expansion of the automation system. High-rate anaerobic EGSB reactors are a well-known and safe solution, broadely used in the fruit and vegetable processing sector, as well as in the production of juices, concentrates and preserves. After implementation the production plant is able to treat organic wastewater in a stable and constant way, without sludge escaping or swelling, and has full control over the treatment processes. The treatment plant is located on a small plot, and the AnoxyBed™-EGSB reactor itself operates at a stream of 600m3/d, purifying sewage with a load corresponding to a city with a population of over 30,000. The heat exchanger system ensures a safe and continuous cleaning process without temperature loss. The entire project was carried out on the move, without turning off the existing part of the treatment system, and therefore without forcing a downtime of the production plant.
